‘One of the highlights of last year for me was the Natura 2000 monitoring workshop in Croatia. What a hospitable people. What competent trainers. What breathtaking nature. During the intensive workshops in the mountains, we had to be careful not to squash the many species of orchids.

The fifth Natura 2000 monitoring workshop in Croatia brought together 46 participants from 13 European countries, who, over three days were trained in the use of drone and satellite imagery. The joint work showed that remote methods could be successfully used to automate and accelerate data collection in the field. However, verification with on-the-ground data is still necessary.

Big thanks to Geonatura, Javna ustanova “Natura viva” and Javna ustanova Maksimir for all their support in the preparation and implementation of the workshop!

The participants agreed to cooperate further in the Eurosite Remote Sensing Support Group. Feel welcome to join!’
