Nicole Nowicki
Nicole was involved int the creation of the European Natural Sites Twinning Programme in 1987, alongside her husband, Peter. This led to the creation of Eurosite in 1989, which then grew to more than 100 institutional partners throughout Europe. Nicole was the first president for the establishment of Eurosite, and then the first director for nearly two decades. In honor of her work promoting nature conservation in Europe, she received the distinction of Knight of the National Order of Merit by the French Government. She worked for Eurosite until her retirement in 2013. Nicole continues to take interest in nature conservation and Natura 2000 sites by her support of Eurosite and through her activities in the area where she now lives.
