Jan Veenstra
Jan’s motivation to become an individual Eurosite member is to keep in touch with the nature network in general and especially in the field of the Eurosite Working Group on Economics and Ecosystem Services.
EXPERTISE
Jan investigates the relation between nature and economy (TEEB) and classical ecological economic options for market systems for protected areas.
Jan has made an investigation into economisation in Dutch nature policy. The question in this investigation was: Is there economisation in Dutch nature policy and – if so – what consequences could result? He reached the conclusion: Yes, there is economisation of nature policy; and that is both risky for the intrinsic value of nature and inevitable for sustainable development. In which sustainable development means at least that we keep our natural resources in good shape and don’t return more garbage into nature than it can process. The plan is to publish a public book with a lot of historical information about the place of nature in economic thinking, the change of the policy image of nature by the option of nature development and about government expenditures for nature.
