Doğa Koruma Merkezi / the Nature Conservation Centre
Nature Conservation Centre (DKM) was established in 2004 to ensure the effective conservation of biological diversity and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Since its inception, DKM has been focusing on developing new tools and methods for biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and climate change adaptation by following practices implemented in various parts of the world. The organization considers practical and actionable solutions as the cornerstone of these efforts.
In coordination with public and private sector partners, DKM develops alternatives to classical conservation approaches, offering exemplary models for the sustainable management and rational use of natural resources.
DKM’s Mission:
- To ensure that the principles of conservation biology are fully understood and applied in nature conservation efforts.
- To mainstream biodiversity conservation into all public policies related to resource management.
- To increase the adaptive capacity of socio-ecological systems to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.
- To enhance the institutional capacities of public and private sectors for long-term and effective conservation.
Within the framework of this mission:
- DKM produces solutions for biodiversity conservation and natural resource management based on comprehensive and innovative applications rooted in conservation biology.
- It collaborates with state institutions to integrate conservation biology into forestry, agricultural practices, and urbanization from policy to practice.
- It implements adaptation initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on species, natural ecosystems, and communities dependent on these ecosystems and to strengthen their resilience.
- It strives to establish the necessary infrastructure for these efforts.
DKM works on seven main strategic themes:
- Biological Diversity: Species, Ecosystems, and Ecological Processes
- Soil, Water, and Food Systems
- Climate Change
- Systematic Conservation Planning
- Nature Education
- Spatial Data Analysis
- Pollution and Recycling
