Habitat Restoration in Natura 2000 sites in Krkonoše National Park and Europe

This classic Eurosite workshop will demonstrate the value of learning from sharing and comparing ‘on the ground’ site management experiences. The workshop will demonstrate management approaches being developed and applied across Krkonoše’s 29 diverse habitat types by the National Park’s management team, in particular focussing on the vast expanses of grassland and forest habitats. Site managers from across Europe will have the opportunity to network and share their practical experience of approaches to restoration in diverse habitats. In addition, the workshop provides valuable opportunities to discuss information about relevant EU policy developments that affect management development and implementation plans. Transboundary management issues will also be discussed through links with EUROPARC and Karkonosze National Park in Poland. At the same time, we will also discuss ways to engage and involve local stakeholders in the implementation process required for Natura 2000 management.

The workshop’s focus on practical experience is an ideal opportunity to celebrate 20 years of the Habitats Directive, ‘in the field’, where it matters most. Together with colleagues from all over Europe, management approaches for habitat restoration and conservation improvement will be show-cased and frankly discussed: attention will be given to the successes, as well as the practical management challenges, involved in implementing the Habitats Directive, especially in a changing climate. Our collective aim will be to generate results from the workshop, which will be useful for strengthening this core legislation for the next 20 years and beyond.
