Training course on creating wetlands near cities
8. March 2023 @ 9:30 - 16:30
Wetlands make an important contribution to the fight against climate change: from flood protection during heavy rainfall and water retention to carbon storage and green air conditioning for nearby cities.
During this training course, we show that a cooperation between a private landowner, the municipality/province and a nature conservation NGO can pay off for all parties. Resulting in the creation and restoration of a pleasant living environment with attention for nature, biodiversity and climate.
At only 1.5 km from the historical centre of Aalst, Natuurpunt is restoring a wetland to prevent flooding of the landowners domain, to provide a cooling effect on the city of Aalst and create valuable habitat for local biodiversity.
The training consists of two parts: a theoretical part in the morning with a presentation by the relevant stakeholders and an excursion in the afternoon to the wetland.
Participants should bring waterproof shoes (walking shoes or boots).
