The Conservation Finance Boot Camp
THE CONSERVATION FINANCE BOOT CAMP EXPERIENCE
Organised annually by the US-based Conservation Finance Network, this unique training brings together leaders from the private sector, charitable foundations, public agencies, conservation organisations, and academic institutions. It’s more than just a learning experience—it’s a platform for building partnerships and sharing groundbreaking ideas. In 2023, the first European Conservation Finance Boot Camp took place in Italy, marking an exciting step forward for European conservation finance.
Why it matters
The challenges are vast, from climate change adaptation to restoring biodiversity. Solving these monumental problems requires the conservation sector to work with the private sector. Yet Europe’s conservation sector has traditionally relied on public funding, but this model leaves much of the available capital untapped.
Many NGOs face financial strain as EU funding instruments require significant co-financing, often leading to budget gaps and unsustainable practices. The European Commission actively encourages NGOs to engage the private sector as co-investors in conservation efforts, but bridging this gap requires fresh strategies and bold thinking. Understanding how businesses operate and finding shared goals is essential.
What you’ll learn
The boot camp covers:
-
-
- Innovative finance tools to diversify funding streams.
- Strategies to engage private sector partners in conservation projects.
- Case studies of successful collaborations that leverage corporate support.
- Practical solutions to make, e.g., forestry and agriculture more nature-friendly.
-
But this programme goes beyond financial tools—connecting with role models and pioneers in conservation finance, sharing uplifting stories, and building networks that spark lasting change.
Transforming challenges into opportunities
The European Conservation Finance Boot Camp is your opportunity to explore how partnerships can drive large-scale impact, empowering NGOs to collaborate with corporate actors and unlock untapped potential for a sustainable future.
