Life Symposium Weerribben Wieden (Wetland challenges and innovation in succession management)

Life Symposium Wetland Challenges A new Life for the Marshes Weerribben-Wieden National Park the Netherlands 8 and 9 October 2009 Since late 2006, Natuurmonumenten (The Wieden) and Staatsbosbeheer (The Weerribben) have been participating in a unique project: “New Life for the Marshes”.

The purpose of the project is to enhance and develop important and, in particular, very special natural marshland. This project receives financial support from the European Union Life Nature Fund and is a continuation of an earlier successful collaboration. This is the second project of the Life Fund in Weerribben Wieden National Park. This emphasises both the importance of this Project and the natural values of the area.

The “New Life for the Marshes” LIFE Symposium that will be held on 8 and 9 October 2009 is the place to meet and exchange knowledge and information about the existing natural quality of the marsh and to view the results that have been achieved. Nature and nature projects, with living, working and leisure activities are the most important subjects on the programme.

Natuurmonumenten and Staatsbosbeheer will also be working together in Northwest Overijssel in 2010 in order to continue to contribute to “New Life for the Marshes”. At least 1,200 hectares of the 10,000 which they manage in the Wieden and the Weerribben will – either directly or indirectly – be positively influenced as a result of “New Life for the Marshes”. The abundance of plants and animals and the beautiful, varying landscape are considered to be very well worth the investment.

Natuurmonumenten and Staatsbosbeheer are proud that they may manage this absolutely unparalleled region. They are putting their hearts and souls into this natural area to protect its unique character and to encourage its ecological development. In this way, the public can continue to enjoy nature; whether you are boating, cycling or rambling, you will always feel welcome.
