Twinning partners:

Vereniging Natuurmonumenten regio Zuid-Holland en Zeeland (Nature reserve “Tiengemeten”), the Netherlands.
Conseil Général de la Gironde (Nature reserve “Île Nouvelle”), France.

Twinning status:

Conseil Général de la Gironde, Natuurmonumenten and Eurosite have signed an Agreement in Principle to refine a MoU and the Twinning plan as outlined on this page. This agreement was signed in October 2007, Blenkenberge, Belgium - during the Eurosite Annual Conference.

Twinning period:

Twinning to be operational until 2011 (speculative date).

Partner details and rationale:

The Twinning-idea was started when Roel Posthoorn with others involved in the Tiengemeten development plan visited Ile Nouvelle. Many things were very comparable between the sites, which are both designated as Natura 2000. An island of agricultural use to be converted into nature with a settlement in an estuary. In 2006 the French colleagues involved in the development of “Ile Nouvelle” visited “Tiengemeten”. Then we decided to start an official twinning.

Exchange on all topics involved in making and maintenance of a nature island in an estuary;
Monitoring, management, recreational infrastructure on the islands;
Cooperation with adjacent villages, within the harbour area.

3. Results and progress: ↑ page top

Reports of Twinning meetings have been produced and will eventually made available;
In 2009 no exchange visit, but email-contacts between partners;
Extensive report of earlier visit to the NL in 2008 was issued at the end of 2009.

4. Annual planning 2010 ↑ page top

The goals for the coming months are:

An exchange visit is planned every year, one year Tiengemeten, the next year Ile Nouvelle. The topics to be dealt with in the exchange are decided in the year before.
