1st International Congress on management and awareness in protected volcanic landscapes (VOLCANDPARK)

Volcandpark is the first international congress to be devoted to the management, the raising of awareness, and geotourism in protected volcanic areas. It aims to provide a unique opportunity to bring together people from many different fields (scientists, administrators, politicians, tour operators, etc), any of whom may become involved in some way in territorial planning, management and promotion of protected volcanic areas (national and natural parks, natural reserves, etc.).

Deep Ocean Cabled Observatories: towards new collaborations

Cabled observatories provide marine scientists with a large number of opportunities previously completely unavailable. In this workshop, taking place in NIKHEF, Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on the 24th and 25th of May 2012, marine scientists (geoscientists, biologists, oceanographers, etc) and astroparticle physicists will jointly discuss current and future research options using deep ocean cabled observatories, the future of ocean research.

Habitat Restoration in Natura 2000 sites in Krkonoše National Park and Europe

This classic Eurosite workshop will demonstrate the value of learning from sharing and comparing ‘on the ground’ site management experiences. The workshop will demonstrate management approaches being developed and applied across Krkonoše’s 29 diverse habitat types by the National Park’s management team, in particular focussing on the vast expanses of grassland and forest habitats. Site managers from across Europe will have the opportunity to network and share their practical experience of approaches to restoration in diverse habitats. In addition, the workshop provides valuable opportunities to discuss information about relevant EU policy developments that affect management development and implementation plans.

6th International Conference on Monitoring and Management of Visitors in Recreational and Protected Areas

The MMV conference provides a forum for presentations and other exchanges of ideas and experiences related to the monitoring and management of visitors in recreation and protected areas. The emphasis is on policies, problems, practices and innovative solutions, and will therefore be of equal relevance to managers and researchers.

Dune Scrub and Woodland Conference

This two-day international conference at Liverpool Hope University will be dedicated to the scrub and woodland on coastal dunes. The conference is marking the 20th anniversary of the Habitats Directive, and will primarily focus on the habitats of the Atlantic Biogeographical Region, as well as other geographical regions. This will be a great opportunity for reviewing current dune forestry practices in various regions.

Eurosite VII Spoonbill Workshop Santoña, Victoria and Joyel marshes Natural Park, Spain

This Eurosite workshop, presented in collaboration with the International Spoonbill Working Group (ISWG), provides a unique opportunity to celebrate key EU policies, strengthen their implementation and promote the interchange of knowledge, experiences and ideas between people involved in studying and managing wetlands for the conservation of spoonbills and associated waterbird populations. Our aim is to share information and build practical know-how about drivers of population regulation and ways to improve management effectiveness in habitat restoration, especially between the well-known spoonbill Atlantic population / countries and other spoonbill populations / countries. We will also share advances in communication, awareness and raising support to improve waterbird conservation.

European landscapes are among the most fragmented areas in the world. Natural habitats have been lost, transformed and isolated over many centuries, but the pace and extent of landscape change that we face today is unprecedented. Fragmentation caused by expanding transport infrastructure and urban sprawl is a major cause for the loss of biodiversity, and many of its detrimental effects may still take time to manifest fully.

Eurosite & EUROPARC Annual Conference 2012 - (Re)connecting

This year Eurosite and EUROPARC will join forces. Our joint Annual Conference will be held from 22 - 25 October 2012 in the Kempen and Maasland Regional Landscape in Genk, Belgium. The protected area encompasses Belgium’s only national park, Hoge Kempen, as well as the nature parks GrensPark Kempen-Broek and RivierPark Maasvallei.

The theme of the conference will be ‘(RE)CONNECTING’. It will explore (Re)connecting nature with nature; people with nature; business with biodiversity; and policy with practice. In other words: (re)connecting society with biodiversity.
