Life Nature and Biodiversity - Your opinion matters!
The European Commission is currently consulting with stakeholders to shape key funding mechanisms for nature and biodiversity. The EC is seeking views on what has worked well in the LIFE Nature programme and what should be changed.
This is a vitally important point in time to share views and work together to openly, positively and productively influence future funding opportunities for European nature conservation beyond LIFE+. LIFE+ Biodiversity is a new strand, and has involved a learning process for all concerned - the Commission will be seeking to clarify what the needs, the gaps and the constraints are in this field, as well as what nature conservation organisations’ expectations are regarding possible LIFE+ Biodiversity projects.
A conference ‘LIFE Nature and Biodiversity – preparing the future’, organised by the LIFE Unit of DG Environment, will take place in Brussels on 31 May and 1 June 2010. (This is immediately prior to the ‘Green Week’ 2010, which has an overarching theme of Biodiversity.) We understand that participation is by invitation only, but there are a limited number of places, which are open to interested stakeholders. Eurosite is applying for one of the open seats - we wish to represent our members’ views in the open discussion and advocate on behalf of site management interests. However, if you are also interested in participating directly, we would strongly encourage you to register and apply for a place online by 30 April 2010 - for more information and the registration form, visit:

Whether you plan to attend or not, please tell us your main priorities for nature conservation funding and how to improve the major mechanisms – we will share this with network colleagues and the EC with the aim of inputting constructively to the dialogue. Also, if you have already been invited by the European Commission, because, for example, you have managed a LIFE project in the past or at present, we would very much like to know whether you are planning to attend this event and what your views are.
It would be extremely helpful to have your feedback by Friday, 23 April, so that we can compile and reflect the views and opinions held by Eurosite members. Please send the points you wish to make to: info@eurosite.org
