Celebrating 20 years of Eurosite, the Eurosite Annual Conference 2009 took place in Peñíscola, Spain, 25th – 29th May. A full four-day programme of seminar, working groups and field visits also included the Eurosite Annual General Meeting, during which the Board and Council confirmed that in principal, the core business of Eurosite will be funded in its entirety by membership fees from January 1st 2010.

The event was generously hosted by Generalitat de Valencia, with the collaboration of Fundacio Caixa Catalunya. The conference was remarkably well organised, and the hospitality exceptional; Generalitat de Valencia and Fundacio Caixa Catalunya delivered a memorable event that was enjoyed by all.

The conference theme 'Participatory Conservation: A Stakeholder Approach’ was addressed in seminar day plenary sessions, dedicated working groups, and during two days of field visits which included tours of Sierra de Irta and the Ebro Delta. Working group sessions included discussions under headings including ‘Adaptive Management’, ‘Marine Conservation’ and ‘Branding and Quality Standards’.
