Endangered amphibians  

From time immemorial, small-scale man-made landscapes - consisting of pools, hedges, overgrown, dry, insect-rich areas and forgotten patches - have been the natural habitats of the great crested newt, the yellow-bellied toad, the midwife toad, the European tree frog and the common spadefoot toad in the Netherlands. These five species of amphibians are now rare.

This European Environment Agency (EEA) report analyses the risks that climate change presents to the region, extracts policy guidance on adaptation practice and aims to assist regional and local stakeholders in developing robust adaptation strategies.  

Eurosite members Natural England and the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) have been working with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) together as the Government’s statutory advisors to establish UK Natura 2000 Marine Conservation Areas.  

BirdLife has taken a major step towards the identification of Marine Important Bird Areas (mIBAs) for seabirds around the globe, establishing guidelines which can be used to track seabirds and analyse the data to identify Marine IBAs for any seabird species.
