Water Framework Directive - Checklist for Natura 2000 Protected Areas
Water dependent Natura 2000 sites need to be considered in River Basin Management Plans (RBMP). Member States have to submit their final RBMP to the EC the end of 2009. A draft plan required to be submitted by the end of 2008. These draft plans are to be opened for public consultation during the first half of 2009.
To help ensure Natura 2000 sites are properly considered in the draft RBMP, a checklist was developed at the Natural England - Eurosite workshop: 'Integration of the Water Framework Directive and Natura 2000', which took place the 17th-18th September 2008.
During this workshop experiences were shared on Natura 2000 Protected Areas in River Basin Management planning between participants from several European Member States.
This checklist is includes coverage of:
- Identification of water-dependent Natura 2000 Protected Areas;
- Protected Areas and water bodies;
- Objectives for Natura 2000 Protected Areas;
- Natura 2000 Protected Areas in River Basin Management Plans;
- Deadlines for achieving objectives of Natura 2000 Protected Areas.
The checklist for Natura 2000 Protected Areas and the conclusions of the workshop are available for download below.
