Strategic Planning Workshop for the Conservation of the Axios Estuary
This project is a joint effort by the Authority for the Management of the Protected Area of Axios Ludias Aliakmonas Estuaries (Axios Authority) and Foundations of Success (FOS). The overall goal of this effort is to develop a strategic plan for the conservation of biodiversity in the Axios Estuary. This strategic plan will serve as input to an integrated Management Plan, which will be developed by a slightly broader set of stakeholders over the course of 2008. With the preparation of a conservation strategy we aim to ensure inclusion of well-grounded conservation aims. This process can thus be regarded as "pre-planning from a biodiversity perspective". It is also important to note that the area will be declared a National Park within the next few months. In addition, we aim to test if "Adaptive Management" can help improve site management of natural areas in the Axios Estuary.
