SEENET

2006 - 2007

A programme for assisting the involvement of South-East Europe and the Black Sea area in activities supportive of the Pan-European Ecological Network (PEEN) – ensuring that the interests and of these regions were taken into account during the development and implementation of activities. The programme also created a framework for improved cooperation between existing initiatives including the Emerald Network and Natura 2000. Eurosite’s key role, as part of the programme management team, was the development of SEENET training components.

Outputs included training and seminars ‘Funding sources for nature conservation and ecological networks’ and ‘Balancing regional planning and ecological networks in South-East Europe and the Black Sea Region’.

The main beneficiaries of the programme included national authorities, intergovernmental organisations and NGOs in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, the Russian Federation and the Ukraine, as well as the owners and managers of protected areas in these countries.

Project financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of the BBI-Matra programme.
