PEER EXCHANGES 2010: Dealing with uncertainty

ECONAT2000 has developed to promote the exchange of best practice and experience for implementing Natura2000 and its interface with economic developments. Econat2000 aim is to enhance trans-boundary and cross sector cooperation by exploring in greater detail: How the ‘legal’, ‘ecological’ and “economic” concepts in the Habitats and Birds Directives are applied in practical cases?

The network members are 4 organisations/institutions drawn from both the nature conservation and economic development sectors.* Rijkswaterstaat , part of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management,

* Natural England, Nature Conservation Agency in England,

* Niedersächsischer Landesbetrieb für Wasserwirtschaft, Küsten- und Naturschutz , NLWKN, part of Ministry of Environment of Lower Saxony,

* ATEN, Umbrella organisation grouping together protected area management bodies, mandated by the French Ministry in charge of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Land use planning.

Programme for 2010:

* Dealing with uncertainty - Peterborough (UK) - 9-10/03/2010

* Recreational activity and N2000 sites - Exeter (UK) - 16-18/03/2010

* Defragmentation (blue & green belts) - Utrecht (NL) - 13-15/04/2010

* Compensatory measures implementation - Nimes (FR) - 21-23/04/2010

* Water policy & management & N2000 - Augsburg (DE) - 27-29/04/2010

This workshop will consider how uncertainty of impacts of a plan or project is made when carrying out an assessment through Article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive. Assessments of plans is often more difficult than assessment of projects because plans are strategic by nature with the details of the plan not being clear.
