ECONAT Peer Exchanges 2010: Recreational activity and Natura 2000 Sites
ECONAT2000 has developed to promote the exchange of best practice and experience for implementing Natura2000 and its interface with economic developments. Econat2000 aim is to enhance trans-boundary and cross sector cooperation by exploring in greater detail: How the ‘legal’, ‘ecological’ and “economic” concepts in the Habitats and Birds Directives are applied in practical cases?
The network members are 4 organisations/institutions drawn from both the nature conservation and economic development sectors.
* Rijkswaterstaat , part of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management,
* Natural England, Nature Conservation Agency in England,
* Niedersächsischer Landesbetrieb für Wasserwirtschaft, Küsten- und Naturschutz , NLWKN, part of Ministry of Environment of Lower Saxony,
* ATEN, Umbrella organisation grouping together protected area management bodies, mandated by the French Ministry in charge of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Land use planning.

* Recreational activity and N2000 sites - Exeter (UK) - 16-18/03/2010
* Defragmentation (blue & green belts) - Utrecht (NL) - 13-15/04/2010
* Compensatory measures implementation - Nimes (FR) - 21-23/04/2010
* Water policy & management & N2000 - Augsburg (DE) - 27-29/04/2010
This exchange will consider various types of recreational activity which affect Natura 2000 sites. Assessment and management approaches designed to ensure compatibility with the duties of the Habitats Directive will be compared through the presentation and discussion of case studies. The agenda will be partly determined by the specialist interest of participants.
