Volcandpark is the first international congress to be devoted to the management, the raising of awareness, and geotourism in protected volcanic areas. It aims to provide a unique opportunity to bring together people from many different fields (scientists, administrators, politicians, tour operators, etc), any of whom may become involved in some way in territorial planning, management and promotion of protected volcanic areas (national and natural parks, natural reserves, etc.). The Congress will take place in Olot (Spain), a town lying wholly within La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, and will be organized conjointly by this natural park ( www.gencat.cat/parcs/garrotxa), the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera of the Spanish National Research Council (www.ija.csic.es), the Geological Institute of Catalonia (www.igc.cat ) and Olot Town Council ( www.turismeolot.com ), endorsed by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) ( www.iavcei.org ).

The conference will have four main goals: 1) Management of protected volcanic areas, 2) Geological and ecological heritage value of protected volcanic areas, 3) Geotourism in protected volcanic areas, and 4) Education and communication. The meeting will include four main symposia, each one addressing one of the main goals, which will combine introductory oral presentations (invited keynotes) and posters. The meeting is intended to promote discussion forums for each of the respective topics and, in particular, interdisciplinary, cross-boundary discussions. Emphasis will be given to poster presentations and discussion forums rather than to short talks.
