EC launches public debate on protecting Europe's forests against climate change
The European Commission adopted on 1 March 2010 a Green Paper which sets out options for a European Union approach to the protection of forests and information about forest resources and their condition.
Responses to the Green Paper from the public, Member States, EU institutions and other stakeholders will guide the Commission on whether additional action is needed at EU level. This link will guide you to the press release: http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/10/207<
The English version of the Green Paper and its accompanying "Staff Working Document" (translations available soon) can be found via this link: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/forests/fprotection.htm
The European Commission expressed their wish, that people will take part into the Public Consultation either online http://www.ec.europa.eu/environment/consultations/forests_en.htm or live:
at the Valsain Conference http://www.marm.es/ue2010/evento.aspx?Ing=en&id=5 organised by the Spanish Presidency of the Council (6-7 April 2010) or,
during the Forest side event, as a part of the Green Week 2010 http://ec.europa.eu/greenweek in Brussels (3 June 2010).
Please note that both events are on invitation only, with limited room. Make sure to contact organisers as soon as possible if you wish to participate, as a balanced participation from the different countries and interest groups needs to be arranged.
Due to the short notice, the European Commission arranged a special delay for forest stakeholders wishing to apply for a stand at the Green Week exhibition: To book a stand, please read the application guidelines and submit a completed application form by 12 March 2010 (instead of 5 March for all other stakeholders).
