Towards a comprehensive EU adaptation strategy: European Council conclusions on climate change

On the 25th of June the Council of the European Union underlined the need for a cross-sectoral approach in order to achieve proactive adaptation to climate change.

The 12 point conclusions paper includes recognition that climate change is already happening and that its impacts vary across sectors and by region. The paper draws attention to the inevitablility of impacts on animal and plant health, terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems, and biodiversity in general. With regard to the impacts of climate change across sectors, the Council stresses the need for a cross-sectoral approach in order to enhance synergies.
