Connecting Natura 2000 and Economic Activities

Natura 2000 is the European network of protected sites for nature conservation. All countries in the EU face the challenge of combining economic activities with managing and conserving Natura 2000.

Many countries have found 'win win' solutions despite the tendency for emphasising conflicts.

New approaches to the planning of future infrastructure, and re-evaluation of existing economic use, have allowed the protection of the Natura 2000 network, whilst supporting economic and social development.

Why this Seminar in 2008?

Following the successful seminar in 2007, the ECONAT partnership will base it's 2008 seminar around the theme of compensation and mitigation of economic activities in Natura 2000 sites.

Speakers will be drawn from organisations across North West Europe.

The seminar will hear the results of learning from recent peer exchanges on: General Approaches to Implementation, Coastal Management, Transport, Estuary Management, and Habitat Banking. In addition recent cases on real life solutions will be presented.

This event is by invitation only.
