Publication: 'Nature's role in Climate Change'

The European Commission has published a handy leaflet communicating the importance of nature and biodiversity for mitigation and adaption to climate change.

The leaflet outlines the significant contribution of nature and biodiversity as a sink for man-made carbon emissions and describes the socio-economic advantages of ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Following the White Paper on Adapting to Climate Change, the publication underlines the need for an integrated policy approach, stating that climate change can not be properly tackled without appropriate consideration of nature and biodiversity.

The publication is available for download from the European Commission nature and biodiversity publications page.

Other recent additions to the Nature and Biodiversity Publications Library include:

  • 'Natura 2000 - Europe's nature for you' has been updated to include covering 27 Member States, and is now available in 22 languages.
  • 'Natura 2000 - Conservation in partership' has been re-released, and includes BG, DE, EN, ES, FR, HU, IT, NL, PL, and RO language versions.
  • A series on 'Biogeographical regions' has been completed, adding Black Sea, Mediterranean, Pannonian and Steppic regions to the set.
